HOW WE INCUBATE STARTUPS?

The programmes selected by Circular Influence have all the same goal, to incubate great ideas and help them become viable, or as our motto eloquently puts it: we transform ideas into positive impact solutions.

Thanks to these programmes we create a clear pathway from an undefined thought in somebody’s head into a tangible solution. We attract the people who have an interest in their surrounding environment, who want to change the current status and lead the change for a circular economy.

Our work seeks to give power to the citizen, to anyone who doubts their idea can be powerful, by providing the tools, knowledge and the potential to step out into the real world and independently foster positive impact.

By accelerating such innovations we allow anyone to lead the change they want to achieve.

Circular Influence centres its activities in a parallel with Design Thinking methodology.

Design Thinking is a worldwide known approach to tackling complex problems that may be challenging to grasp. The method can be understood as a non-linear, interactive process that work groups utilize to understand their customers, challenge assumptions, identify problems and create novel solutions to prototype and test. Design Thinking consist of 5 inextricably linked stages: Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype and Test.

Climate change is one of those incredibly complex issues which present many questions and do not seem to have a simple answer. Without truly understanding all the interlinked problems related to climate change, we cannot develop specific solutions and bring then to action. This complexity inspired us to approach climate change in a parallel with Design Thinking.

As a full member of the EIT Climate-KIC, Circular Influence transcends Design Thinking through a variety of entrepreneurial programmes. In this way we are able to support innovators with market validation, product and financial evaluation, planning, financial sustainability, business models, and mentoring activities.

Circular Influence initiatives put tools and processes in place to foster the launch, development and growth of new products, services, processes and integrated solutions to face our current climate change challenges.

HOW DO WE APPLY THIS INNOVATION FRAMEWORK OF THE DESIGN THINKING STAGES TO CLIMATE ACTION FOR ADULTS?

Empathise

Firstly, it is crucial to empathise the human activity in relation to climate change. During this step we observe the experiences of our society and engage with the environment we currently live in.

DEfine

Secondly, it’s time to define what we have gathered about climate change. We must dissect the causes of our current environmental issues and look at the consequences of our actions. This step should result in clear definitions of particular problems.

  • Circular Influence facilitates a collaborative workshop aimed at explaining the causes and consequences of climate change as well as raising public awareness. After identifying the issues, participants trace the links and illustrate the full picture.

IDEATE

The third step of Design Thinking is Ideation. At this point, the concerns of climate change should be established and we are searching for all ideas that could pose a solution. Ideation lets creativity on lose and at the end we should select the most suitable solutions for each environmental challenge.

Circular Influence comes into this step with two programmes:

  • Digital Education Hack combines a series of online idea-hackathons where participants are presented with a specific challenge and work together to find new ways to transform students’ education experience.
  • Climathon is a programme revolving around challenges specific to each city. The programme consist of a variety of webinars, trainings and workshops over the span of only 2-3 days. The aim of Climathon is to disrupt the status quo, rethink the places we live in and the future we want as citizens.
Each team has to brainstorm to come up with their solutions. No idea is a bad one, the participants create a plethora of solutions for the different challenges either on Digital Transformation focused on Climate Challenges or City based climate challenges and the Circular Influence Jury then finds the best fits to each proposed issue.

PROTOTYPE

Fourthly, we must create prototypes of these ideas because climate action cannot simply rely on abstract concepts. This phase is dedicated to examination, improvement or rejection of these prototypes. By the end of this stage we should have a complete knowledge on which specific solutions to climate change are viable and impactful.

  • Climate Launchpad offers this platform for examination, improvement or rejection of proposals. Each team constructs their own prototype of climate-related ideas and faces the competition against other prototypes. Circular Influence then finds the most flawless and feasible ones which help us understand even better the requirements of effective climate action.

TEST

Lastly, all solutions to climate change must be tested. All data gathered, all prototypes constructed is tested in the real world. However, this step is not passive, we still have space for alterations and redefining. Climate change is in a constant flux which why we always have to be able to adapt even during the testing of our solutions.

  • Circular Influence contributes to it with its newly Accelerator stage where the participants test their business models, adjust their plans and gain a deep knowledge of their product.

HOW DOES CIRCULAR INFLUENCE APPLIES THIS INNOVATION FRAMEWORK TO THE YOUTH?

Empathise & DEFINE

Awareness Raising about Climate Change - We explain the causes & consequences of climate change and the systemic nature of human activities that gave birth to the issues we are dealing with now. We teach how these activities affected the terrestrial as well as aquatic life, how our air has changed

IDEATE

School Innovators - We train teachers to empathise with climate change, understand systems thinking and innovation. We aim to educate educators so that they can adapt their own curriculum towards a challenge-based education while implementing Project-Based Learning (PBL). The result should be the ability to define the issues connected with climate change so that they can pass the knowledge onto the students through their teaching.

PROTOTYPE

Similarly to Climathon, Young Climathon is a locally organized challenge-based competition with a special focus on our youth.

Circular Influence finds young people who want to become involved in climate action through Young Climathon in Argentinian and Uruguayan cities.
Young Climathon consists of a 1- to 2-day city climate hackathon where students collaborate on the city‘s and partners‘ challenges and come up with solutions. Once they find a solution, they can start transforming it into a project or business idea while making use of innovative and digital technologies.
Circular Influence provides the experts, fellow students & entrepreneurs and mentoring from coaches who support these ideas along the way to perfect them. Once the pitches are finalized, it is time for the jury to listen to all pitches and announce the winners.
Circular Influence, as the local organiser, secures the support of local authorities and provides prizes for the Young Climathon winners.

TEST

Young Changemakers - Lastly, we offer to grow these young projects in the real world.
