December 11 2020: Climathon in Argentina and Uruguay
Climathon is a city-based programme, created by EIT Climate-KIC, that offers a clear pathway to action and interaction - an opportunity for cities and citizens to co-create local ideas to shared climate challenges. At the core of the programme is an ideathon organised by passionate local organisers; the people who know their cities and climate challenges the best.
Over the span of 12-72 hours, a diverse group of participants ranging from policymakers to entrepreneurs, youth to business leaders, hackers to academics, and students to professionals, come together to collaborate on forward-thinking ideas. The aim of Climathon is to raise climate awareness, disrupt the status quo, and rethink the places we live in and the future we want as citizens.
In its first edition, Circular Influence took on the role of an organiser for Argentina and Uruguay in 4 cities: Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Mendoza and Montevideo. In response to the circumstances, we created a virtual e-Climathon and proposed the most pressing issues. Participants had the opportunity to take part in the world's largest weather hackathon, choosing one of their city's challenges:
Car-free cities now!
Develop circular waste management systems
Create districts and renewable energy usage habits
Together develop restorative agriculture
Throughout the inscription period that started on the 17th of November, we received the solutions from 70 participants. The programme included a number of workshops and training sessions with experts who helped the participants critically evaluate their solutions and create a strong pitch. On the second day, the participants presented their pitches to the jury which evaluated these ideas to find the very best ones.
