Mundo Sostenible is a mobile app that connects citizens and construction companies with the municipality, with the aim of achieving an efficient construction and demolition waste (CDW) management model.
In the last 12 years, Peru has seen exponential growth in urban building construction. The sector is generating more and more construction and demolition waste, which amounts to 8,000 tonnes of CDW per day. Moreover, the country does not have an exclusive database on the production and characterisation of CDW. This generates a lack of key information for its study, making it impossible to measure the socio-environmental impacts of CDW production and characterisation.
The app developed by Mundo Sostenible will ensure that waste dismantling can be alerted with an image recognition model. Subsequently, thanks to the use of IoT (Internet of Things) technology, real-time monitoring of the CDW collected, transported, sorted, treated, reused or disposed of is maintained. This includes a contribution to the correct sorting of non-hazardous CDW, ensuring that it is reused in works with less environmental impact, minimising municipal costs.
In addition, the use of this tool will generate positive impacts on the environment and the community, because not only will the streets be cleaner but the waste will be reused in a timely manner.
